This last year Gill-Tapia has produced his Mission Series which are painted
in acrylic - he chose this medium for its unique colors specific to his vision
of making contemporary these stoic, organic structures.
His oil painting style is drawn from the painting techniques of the old masters,
with an emphasis on the 17th century. Alvin meticulously grinds most of his
oil paint and exclusively uses flake white. His technique is timely, which requires
that several paintings be in process at the same time.
Gill-Tapia also studied textile design and technique with Maud Henon, internationally
known for her weaving of Gobelin wall tapestries, and a long weave technique.
Alvin continues weaving her unique “long weave”.
